ABOUT Leek Dal Vadas RECIPE

A famous South Indian snack with leek. I added this vegetable because i wanted to add some green onions in these vadas, but then i realized that leek also is very much similar to them and is a milder version of them. And thus the end result was innovative awesome lip smacking hot vadas.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Bengal gram or chana dal soaked for nearly 5 hours about 1 cup (measuring cup)
  2. Leek a medium bunch chopped
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Green chillies about 2
  5. chilli powder 1 tsp
  6. turmeric powder a pinch
  7. Asafoetida a pinch
  8. Curry leaves about a handful
  9. Ginger mince 1 tbsp
  10. Rice flour 2 Tbsp
  11. Water as needed to grind the dal. (It should be as minimum as possible.)
  12. Cumin powder 1 tsp
  13. coriander powder 1 tsp
  14. Coriander a small bunch, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Grind the dal with all the masalas except the coriander leaves, leek and the rice flour. (Keep some soaked about 2 tbsp aside.)
  2. Later on mix the other ingredients, keep it aside along with the soaked whole dal. After mixing well, keep the dal batter aside to let the flavours infuse well.
  3. Shape them into small vadas and flatten them a little with your hands. Deep fry these vadas in a hot oil on a low to medium flame. (Care should be taken for the first 2 mins and the vadas should be left undisturbed.)
  4. After a minute or two, slowly turn them to the other side.
  5. Serve them hot with green chutney or any dipping sauce of your choice.
