ABOUT Aval Khaara Pongal (Poha Hot Pongal) RECIPE

Pongal is a very famous South Indian Breakfast Delicacy made with Rice and moong dal and tempered with freshly ground spices with ghee. I replaced rice with Aval/Poha/Beaten rice and it was extraordinarily tasty. I started doing this as a regular breakfast and amazingly though it is a filling one, doesn't give the feeling of heaviness...

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Poha/ aval 3 cuos
  2. Moonghdal 1 cup
  3. Pepper coarsely crushed 2 tea spoons
  4. Cumin seeds 1 tea spoon
  5. Ghee 3 tablespoons
  6. Roasted cashews few
  7. curry leaves
  8. Hing a pinch
  9. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a pan and dry roast moongh dal for a minute.
  2. Pour some water and cook till the moongh dal is almost cooked.
  3. Wash the poha,well and add to the pan with salt.
  4. Pour one cup of water and keep stirring.
  5. Add two teaspoons of ghee.
  6. When the stuff yhickens and becomes like a thick porridge switch off the stove.
  7. Heat a sauteing pan with remaining ghee and add pepper,cumin,curry leaves,hing and add to the pongal.
  8. Garnish with roasted cashews.
