ABOUT Ethakka Pulissery RECIPE

This is raw plantain banana curd curry which is a variation of Kerala Moru Curry or Kerala Style Pulisery. It is a vegetarian side dish for rice.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Raw Plantain banana - 1
  2. Grated coconut - 1 cup
  3. Yogurt or thick curd - 1/2 - 1 cup
  4. Jeera or cumin seeds - 1 pinch
  5. Mustard seeds - 1/2 + 1/4 teaspoon
  6. Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
  7. Dry red chillies - 2 or 3
  8. Salt - to taste
  9. Coconut oil - 1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon
  10. Red chilly powder - 2 teaspoon
  11. Turmeric powder -1/4 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel the raw plantain banana.
  2. Cut the banana into 2 inch pieces.
  3. Heat 1/4 cup coconut oil in a Kadhai or pan.
  4. Fry the chopped banana and keep it aside.
  5. Grind grated coconut, jeera, mustard, yogurt, turmeric powder and chilli powder to a fine paste.
  6. Heat oil in a kadhai or pan or earthen kadhai.
  7. When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds.
  8. Add dried red chillies cut into half and curry leaves into the oil.
  9. Add the coconut - yogurt mixture and bring to a boil.
  10. Add salt and the fried banana.
  11. Serve hot with rice.
