ABOUT Onion Rasam RECIPE

This is a very unique rasam variety which is made made using raw onions ,jaggery and tamarind extract.No cooking is required only tempering is done .It is ideal for lazy days when you are in no mood to cook.It tastes absolutetly delicious.This recipe was given to me by a neighbour.I was skeptical at first wondering how it will taste because everything is raw but to my utter surprise it tasted yummy and now we make it regularly in my home too.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Big onions-2 numbers chopped
  2. Tamarind extract-from small lemon sized tamarind
  3. Jaggery -2 tablespoons or according to taste
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Green chillies-2 numbers chopped
  6. Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp
  7. Curry leaves few
  8. Coriander leaves few
  9. Oil-1/4 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. First dissolve the Jaggery in water and strain it to remove impurities.
  2. Now in a bowl or vessel mix the Onions,tamarind extract,jaggery water, salt ,curry leaves and coriander leaves.
  3. Temper it with mustard seeds and green chillies.
  4. Serve.
