MURUNGAKAI RASAM is a flavoursome, nutritious and traditional south indian rasam variety made with drumstick pulp or pieces.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Drumstick-1 no chopped to finger length pieces.  
  2. Tamarind extract-from small lemon sized tamarind
  3. Rasam powder-2 teaspoons
  4. Turmeric powder-1/2 teaspoon
  5. Mustard seeds-1/2 teaspoon
  6. Cumin seeds-1 teaspoon
  7. Curry leaves and coriander leaves few
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Asafetida-a pinch
  10. Red chillies-1
  11. Oil/ghee-1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Boil the drumstick and scoop the pulp out.set aside.Keep 4 drumstick pieces as such to add later.
  2. Soak the tamarind in 1 cup of water, extract the juice and discard the pulp.Heat oil/ghee in a kadai add mustard seeds, cumin seeds,red chillies,curry leaves,asafetida and allow it to splutter.
  3. Next pour the tamarind extract , add turmeric powder and bring it to a boil.
  4. Now add the rasam powder,drumstick pulp and pieces ,salt, required water(1 cup) and mix well.
  5. Boil until the rasam becomes frothy, immediately switch off the gas.Garnish and serve hot.
