Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Akki thari or coarsely ground rice (similar to semolina/rava) 1 1/2 cup
  2. 1 tsp Jeera
  3. 1 tsp channa dal
  4. 2 tsp oil
  5. Water 3 cups
  6. salt according to taste

Instructions

  1. Take a utensil and add 3 cups of water, once the water starts boiling, add the jeera, channa dal, salt and 1 tsp oil. Let the water boil for another 5 minutes.
  2. Slowly add the Akki thari by stirring (like we add rava while preparing upma) and close it with a lid and cook for 2 minutes on similar and turn off the stove. Let the Akki thari to cook evenly. After 3 minutes open the lid.
  3. Keep a idli cooker with water on the stove and start making the kadubu. Dampen your hands and take a small portion of the cooked thari and roll into a ball shape and once it is even, dampen your finger and slowly make a hollow cup and steam it in the idli cooker for 20-25 minutes.
  4. Serve hot with either coconut chutney or red chilli chutney.
