Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. All purpose flour 1 1/3 cup
  2. Cocoa powder 1 tbsp
  3. Baking soda 1 tsp
  4. Salt A Pinch
  5. Powdered sugar 1 cup
  6. Buttermilk 1 cup
  7. Oil 1/2 cup
  8. Vanilla essence 1 tsp
  9. Red food coloring 1 tsp
  10. Vinegar 1/2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Grease baking tray with some oil. Line a cupcake tray with cupcake liners.
  2. Sieve 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour in a large bowl. Add 1 tbsp cocoa powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda and a pinch of salt.
  3. Sieve the dry ingredients. Add 1 cup powdered sugar.
  4. Create a well in the centre of the dry ingredients using a spatula.
  5. For buttermilk, add 1 tbsp vinegar in 1 cup milk. Let sit for 5 mins.
  6. Add the buttermilk in centre of the well. Add 1/2 cup oil and 1 tsp vanilla essence. Whisk until no lumps are present.
  7. Once batter is smooth, add red gel colour. Mix till incorporated.
  8. Batter should be smooth and have a flowing consistency.
  9. Keep the baking trays ready.
  10. In a separate bowl, add 1 tbsp vinegar and sprinkle 1/2 tsp baking soda into it. Let fizz and add immediately add to the cake batter.
  11. Mix with a spoon/spatula and pour into the baking tray.
  12. Put 1 spoon of batter into the cupcake moulds.
  13. Bake in oven at 160 degree Celsius. Bake cupcakes for 13-18 mins depending on their size. Bake the sheet cake for 15 mins.
  14. Cake should be soft and springy to touch. Demold cake from the tray.
  15. Whisk 1 cup whipping cream until stiff peaks form.
  16. Use a glass jar to make the dessert. Select a round cutter that is roughly the same size as the jar.
  17. Cut discs from the cake and place into the jar.
  18. Pipe cream on top using a star nozzle.
  19. Fill the cream in a pastry bag or ziplock pouch.
  20. PLACE A LAYER OF CAKE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE JAR, MAKING SURE ITS SEEN ON ALL SIDES
  21. PIPE A LAYER OF CREAM FROM SIDES TO CENTRE
  22. REPEAT THE LAYERS TILL YOU REACH ON TOP
  23. FINAL LAYER SHOULD BE OF CREAM. GARNISH WITH SPRINKLES
  24. YOUR LAYERED DESSERT JAR IS READY TO BE GIFTED
  25. YOU CAN ALSO MAKE IN SMALL GLASSES FOR YOUR PARTY
  26. PIPE. STAR ON TOP OF CUPCAKES AND GARNISH WITH CANDY
