ABOUT Stuffed idli RECIPE

An Idli dish filled with potato filling that has no rice in the batter.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. For the batter:
  2. 1 cup urad dal, skinless
  3. 2 cup suji
  4. 1.5 cup water
  5. Salt 1 tsp
  6. For the filling:
  7. 4 boiled potatoes
  8. 1 chopped onion
  9. 1 chopped tomato
  10. 5-6 Curry Leaves
  11. 1 tsp jeera
  12. A pinch of haldi
  13. Oil -1 tbsp + some for greasing the idli moulds
  14. Salt to taste
  15. Black pepper 1/2 tsp

Instructions

  1. For the batter:
  2. Soak the dal for 5 hours. Drain the excess water and make a paste of it with small amount of water.
  3. Then add suji, salt and water to the dal. Leave it overnight for fermentation.
  4. For the filling:
  5. Take 1 tbsp oil to heat in a pan, to it add jeera, curry leaves, onion. Saute them for 2 mins, then add the tomatoes, salt, haldi, pepper and finally mashed aloo or potatoes.
  6. Let it cook for 1-2 minutes. Then turn off the stove and keep aside to cool.
  7. Add some water to the idli batter to make it of the right consistency.
  8. Grease the idli moulds, pour the batter, then the filling and once again the batter. Cook them for 13-15 mins.
  9. Serve them hot to enjoy!
