ABOUT Puranpoli RECIPE

A famous sweet flat bread dish from Maharashtra. It is mainly made during Ganesh Chaturthi and any kind of festival. Gujratis also made same kind of sweet flat bread with the name of vedmi. The difference is that they use tuvar dal unlike chana dal used by maharastrians.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Whole wheat - 2cup
  2. 1tbsp - Oil
  3. Chana dal / Bengal gram - 1 1/2 cup
  4. Sugar - 1/2 cup
  5. Green cardamom powder -1 teaspoon
  6. Nutmeg powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  7. Ghee - 1 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Take a big bowl , add 2 cups wheat flour, pinch of salt, 1 tablespoon oil. Add water gradually and knead a soft smooth dough.
  2. Soak chana dal in water for 2-3 hrs.
  3. After 2-3 hrs, pressure cook dal wait for 2 whistle. Reduce flame for 5 mints, then turn off gas..
  4. Separate the water of boiled dal. keep aside strain water for making katachi amti (optional ).
  5. Smash dal with your hand or grinder.
  6. Heat a pan with 1 tablespoon of ghee and 1 tablespoon of oil. Add smashed dal, now add sugar. Mix it well.stir continuously for 3-4 minutes, then add cardamom and nutmeg powder. Give a nice stir.
  7. When the dal starts to separate from pan. Turns off gas, let it cool.
  8. Take medium portion of dough. Roll it like a small puri. Put chana dal stuffing centre of the puri, seal edages properly, pinch off the excess.
  9. Again make round balsl, roll it gently like a paratha.
  10. Place it on the hot tawa. Fry paratha with oil / ghee..
  11. Puranpoli is ready to eat, serve it with katachi amti and batachi bhaji.
