ABOUT Carrot rava khichdi/upma RECIPE

Rava khichdi/upma is the most favourite south Indian breakfast . It's a comfortable food which helps in good digestion. It tastes great with coconut chutney and mixed vegetable sambhar.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Rava / semolina / sooji 1 cup
  2. Finely chopped 1 onion
  3. Finely chopped 1 small tomato
  4. Grated/chopped carrot 1/2 cup
  5. Chopped green chillies 2
  6. Curry leaves a few
  7. Black mustard seeds 1/4 teaspoon
  8. Oil 2 teaspoon
  9. Salt to taste
  10. Bengal gram 1 teaspoon
  11. ghee 1 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Dry roast semolina/rava/sooji in a pan,till it turns golden brown in colour.
  2. Once the rava is roasted, keep it aside.
  3. Heat oil in another pan and add the mustard seeds,bengal gram and let them splutter.
  4. Add onions, green chili,and the curry leaves.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes and let them cook.
  6. Fry for few minutes and then add chopped carrots .
  7. Add 2 cups of water to the pan and bring it to boil and add salt.
  8. Now add the roasted rava to the pan, mix it well and remove from heat.
  9. Cover the pan with a lid and leave it to boil for about 5-7 minutes.
  10. Garnish with roasted cashews and chopped coriander leaves.
  11. Serve hot khichdi with vegetable sambar and coconut chutney.
