ABOUT Spicy Mixed Sprouts Dumplings RECIPE

A very healthy evening snack for all the members of a family. Very minimum oil is needed for this evening snack with no compromise in taste.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. For Stuffing:
  2. Mixed Sprouts of your choice 2 cups
  3. Red chillies 4
  4. A small piece of ginger
  5. Asafoetida Powder 1/4 tea spoon
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Sesame oil 2 table spoons
  8. For outer cover:
  9. Barnyard millet 1 cup
  10. Raw rice 1 cup
  11. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash the millet and rice and soak in water together for 3 hours.
  2. Grind to fine smooth paste like dosa batter consistency and keep aside.
  3. Add the red chillies, asafoetida, ginger and salt to the sprouts and grind to a thick coarse paste, While grinding sprinkle some water. Let it be in the consistency of Roti dough but a coarse stuff.
  4. Grease an idli plate and spread the sprouts dough in the craters and steam them out for 15 minutes,
  5. Transfer the steamed stuff to a blender jar, give out few turns and take them out.
  6. Heat a pan with oil and do the seasoning with mustard seeds. Transfer the blended stuff and stir for few minutes. The stuff becomes non sticky and will turn out to a loose granules now. Keep them aside.
  7. Heat a broad pan with the rice and millet grounded stuff with required salt. Add two teaspoons of oil to it and keep stirring.
  8. In few minutes the stuff becomes thick and tight like a roti dough. When it comes rolling together like a ball, switch off and transfer to a bowl.
  9. Knead them with wet palm to soft dough by pressing and kneading.
  10. Take a lemon size ball from the dough and make a small cup out of it.
  11. Place two teaspoons of sprouts mix in it and press the edges of the cup with the fingers.
  12. Make dumplings with rest of the stuff too.
  13. Grease a idli plate, place all the dumplings and steam them for 15 minutes.
