We fondly call it, Sarso ke khet wali sabji, because it looks like ....very tasty seasonal sabji prepared from Fenugreek leaves and split yellow moong dal, very flavourful veg with strong aromas of methi, ginger and garlic, tasted best with soft phulkas or steamed rice ...

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Split yellow moong dal 1 cup
  2. Methi leaves, washed and chopped - 4 cups
  3. Oil 1 tablespoon
  4. Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  5. Jeera 1 teaspoon
  6. Garlic cloves crushed 2 teaspoon
  7. Crushed ginger 1 teaspoon
  8. Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  9. Red chili powder 1 teaspoon
  10. Coriander powder 1 teaspoon
  11. Green chili chopped 1 - 2
  12. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak dal in sufficient water for approximately 1 hour. Drain excess water
  2. Heat oil in a pan , crackle mustard seeds and jeera
  3. Add crushed garlic and ginger
  4. Add spices and saute for 2-3 minutes
  5. Add dal , salt and mix well. Cover and cook for 4-5 minutes
  6. Open the lid and add chopped green chili , methi leaves and mix well
  7. Cover and cook stirring occasionally until dal is cooked
  8. Serve warm with phulkas and rice
