This dal is an alternate to idli sambar i prepare at home. It is very tasty and sweet dal. Pumpkin adds sweetness to the dal. We love this dal with hot idlies and hot roti.
Simple yet delicious.
Rinse and boil 3/4 cup Moong dal in a separate vessel for better taste, alternatively pressure cook the dal
Heat oil in a small pan. Splutter mustard seeds. Add Jeera and Methi.
Saute Onion, Garlic, Ginger, Green chilies, red chilies in the order given until onions are translucent and raw aroma goes away
Add Peas, Curry leaves and Turmeric powder. Mix well
Add Pumpkin and salt. Mix well
Add this mixture to boiling moong dal and mix well
Add tomato and coriander leaves
Cover with a lid and cook. Or Pressure cook for 3 whistles
Stir occasionally to check if the pumpkin is cooked. Cook on low flame for 10 mins
Serve hot with roti
