ABOUT Pumpkin ball chana Dal RECIPE

In our Bengali cuisine we make a mixed vegetables moong dal in which pumpkin is also added. I have given it another twist. Made this new dish chana dal with pumpkin ball. Taste was awesome and those who not liking pumpkin, they can not identify which vegetables is this.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Chana Dal - 1/2 cup ( water soaked)
  2. Grated pumpkin - 1 1/2 cup
  3. Roasted chana powder- 2 tbsp
  4. Grated ginger- 1 tbsp
  5. Red Chilly powder - 1 tsp
  6. Chopped green chilly - 1 tsp
  7. salt as per taste
  8. Oil for fry
  9. For gravy
  10. Ghee - 1 tbsp
  11. Bay leaves- 2 nos
  12. Red chilly- 2-3 tsp
  13. Panch for on- 1 tsp ( mix of 5 spices)
  14. Grated ginger- 1 tsp
  15. Turmeric Powder- 1 tsp
  16. Tomato - 1 nos
  17. Sugar - 1 tsp
  18. Salt
  19. Chopped. Coriander - 1 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Mix all the ingredients for the pumpkin balls and make a soft dough.
  2. Make small balls.
  3. Fry these balls and keep them aside.
  4. Boil the dal with a little bit of oil in a cooker.
  5. Take a clean kadhai, warm up 1 tsp oil and put the Panch foron, bay leaves and red chillies. When these start to crackle and smell wafts off put grated ginger.
  6. Fry the ginger for a little bit then add the dal.
  7. Add tomato and saute for 2 mins.
  8. After that add 1 and 1/2 cup water. Add turmeric powder, salt a and sugar.
  9. Boiling for another 2 mins and add pumpkin balls.
  10. Cook for some more time, add ghee and chopped coriander.
  11. Serve with rice or roti
