Rohu fish fry often cooked in rural odisa marriage party, so make this easy and delicious curry at home with this recipe.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Fish fillets 4 preferably Rohu.
  2. Mustard oil 4 tbsp
  3. Turmeric 2 tbsp
  4. Ginger garlic paste 2tbsp
  5. Salt
  6. Chili powder 1 tbsp
  7. Green chili 3 slit
  8. One big onion
  9. 2 tomatoes
  10. Sugar a pinch
  11. Bay leaves 2
  12. Cinnamon 1 inch stick
  13. Green cardamom 2
  14. Garam masala

Instructions

  1. Wash the fish pieces and rub salt and one tbsp turmeric powder.
  2. Heat oil in a kadhai and fry the fish till they r crisp. Fry on low to medium flame to avoid burning.
  3. Remove them from oil and to the same oil add bay leaf cinnamon and cardamom.
  4. Add finely sliced onions and fry till they are golden. Onions should not be crisp. Now add ginger garlic paste.
  5. Fry for few seconds and add turmeric and chili powder.
  6. Mix well if mixture is too dry sprinkle little water.
  7. Add chopped tomatoes mix and cover. Keep the flame medium to low.
  8. Cook till tomatoes are cooked and become soft. Add spit green chili.
  9. Add sugar and salt and two to three tbsp water.
  10. Add fish pieces. Mix gently with light hand. Be careful not to break the fish pieces. Sprinkle garam masala.
  11. If you feel the curry is too dry add little water.
  12. This is a almost dry recipe and the masala should coat the fish well.
  13. Garnish with some green coriander and serve hot with steamed rice and dal.
