ABOUT Muri Masoor Ghant (Fish head with masoor dal) RECIPE

This is a traditional recipe of east India. People here make this with different dals. But here I use masoor dal as the taste and flavor of masoor goes well with fish head.This dish goes well with steamed rice or phulka.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Fish head- 1
  2. Masoor dal- 2 cups
  3. Onion- 2 (chopped)
  4. Garlic- 10 cloves
  5. Green chillies- 3
  6. Coriander leaves (chopped)- 1/2 cup
  7. Tomato- 2
  8. Oil- 3 tbsp
  9. Garam masala- 1 tsp
  10. Ghee- 1 tsp
  11. Sugar - 1 tsp
  12. Turmeric powder - 3 tsp
  13. Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
  14. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle salt and turmeric on washed fish head.
  2. Chop finely onion, garlic, ginger, green chillies and half of coriander leaves.
  3. Chop tomatoes.
  4. Heat oil in a pan. Fry the fish head till golden brown. Keep aside.
  5. Add chopped onion, garlic, ginger, green chillies, coriander leaves. Fry for 3 to 4 minutes.
  6. Add tomatoes. Fry till oil separates.
  7. Add salt, turmeric, red chilli powder. Mix well.
  8. Add dal, fish head mix well. Add 3 cups of water.
  9. Release pressure. Boil for another 5 minutes.
  10. Add garam masala, ghee, sugar. Mix well.
  11. Switch off gas. Garnish with coriander leaves.
