ABOUT Sarso Da Saag RECIPE

Sarson is a vegetable, these are leaves of mustard. Sarson da saag is a most popular dish in the Punjab and in Pakistan also. Sarson leaves are available in winters only. The traditional way to serve the dish is with Makki di roti.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Spinach 2 cups
  2. Sarson leaves 2 cup
  3. Zeera 2 tsp
  4. Mustard Oil 1 Tbsp
  5. Ginger garlic paste 2 tsp
  6. tamarind 2 pieces
  7. Sugar 1 tsp
  8. Red chilli powder
  9. Haldi powder
  10. butter 1 tbsp to serve
  11. Salt to taste
  12. coriander powder 1 tsp
  13. Zeera powder 1 tsp
  14. green chillie 1

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a deep vessel, add the mustard leaves, spinach and green chillies,cook it on high flame for 5 min. don't over cook otherwise the colour will become dull
  2. Strain and drain water well. Refresh it twice in enough cold water immediately and drain well again.so the cooking process will stop.
  3. Now blend it using 1/2 cup of water
  4. Heat a non-stick kadai, add oil and put jeerain it, once it splutters add onion, ginger garlic paste, asafoetida and saute on medium flame for 1 min.
  5. Then add tamarind, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander-cumin seeds powder ,sugar and salt,
  6. Now add the mixture of spinach mustard leaves.mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Serve hot with makai di roti and butter . Enjoy
