Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. For chapati
  2. 1 cup whole wheat flour
  3. 1 pinch salt
  4. Water to knead the dough
  5. For plain rice
  6. 1/2 cup rice
  7. 1 Cup water
  8. For Dal makhani
  9. 1/2 cup whole red lentils
  10. 1-1/2 tbsp oil
  11. 1 medium onion
  12. 1 medium tomato
  13. 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  14. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  15. 1/2 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)
  16. 1/2 tsp turmeric pwd
  17. 1-1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  18. 1 tsp garam masala powder
  19. 1tbsp fresh coriander leaves
  20. 6-7 curry leaf
  21. Salt to taste
  22. Water required to maintain the consistency of the dal.

Instructions

  1. Mix the ingredients for making chapati.
  2. Slowly add required amount of water to form a soft dough
  3. Let it rest
  4. Take a pressure cooker and place it on gas.
  5. Now wash the rice and add the water as mentioned in the list above and place it in the pressure cooker..
  6. Wash the dal and add water to it and place that too in the cooker at the same time
  7. Pressure cook until whistle
  8. While the dal is cooking, make roti
  9. Make 6 medium sized balls out of the dough.
  10. Place the tava/pan on the gas
  11. Now with help of rolling pin roll the dough to form a chapati of about 5 inches
  12. Now place the rolled chapati on the pan and cook it from both the sides.
  13. Apply ghee if you want (optional )
  14. For the dal makhani
  15. Wait for the cooker to release the pressure.
  16. It takes 10 min to cool down
  17. Cut the onion, tomatoes, fresh coriander and keep it ready
  18. Place a kadhai on the gas stove
  19. Add oil to it
  20. Add mustard seeds and jeera (cumin) seeds let it splutter
  21. Add hing (asafoetida)
  22. Add onion fry till golden brown
  23. Add ginger garlic paste and tomatoes stir it
  24. Add curry leaves
  25. Now add turmeric and chilli powder.
  26. Saute every thing
  27. Now add in the cooked dal
  28. Stir in to mix well
  29. Add salt to taste and Garam masala
  30. Add water to it according to your desired consistency
  31. Let it boil
  32. Turn off the gas and add the freshly chopped coriander.
  33. Now pack your Chapati Rice and dal makhani in the tiffin carrier and all set to go.
