ABOUT Bengali style Poha with Veggies (Chinrer Polao) RECIPE

This ‘Bengali style poha’ is little different than the other versions of poha available in other states of India. In Bengali we call this ‘Chinrer Polao’. It is a traditional breakfast dish and mildly sweet in taste, it includes a lots of veggies and dry fruits makeing it very healthy.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Flattened rice/Poha/Chinre - 250 gms
  2. Onion - 1 (chopped)
  3. Carrot - 1 (chopped)
  4. French beans - 6 to 7 (chopped)
  5. Cauliflower florets - 1/2 cup (florets cut in small size)
  6. Green peas - 1/2 cup
  7. Roasted peanuts - 2 tbsp
  8. Raisins - 1 tbsp
  9. Kalonji - 1/4 tsp
  10. turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  11. Salt to taste
  12. black pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  13. Sugar- 4 tsp (or per your taste)
  14. Vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Boil the vegetables to make them tender, drain and keep aside. The cauliflower florets will be fried till golden brown and kept aside.
  2. Place the poha in a colander. Wash with cold water. Keep aside. (Do not soak).
  3. Heat oil in deep non stick frying pan, add in kalonji, chopped onions, turmeric powder, boiled vegetables, fried cauliflower florets, peanuts, rasins, salt and sugar. Mix and cook for a few minutes on a medium flame.
  4. Transfer the poha directly from the colander, cook for 5 minutes. Add in black pepper.
