It's basically Awadhi style cuisine , prepared for the Nawabs . This dal is very rich , aromatic and smooth in texture . It can served with rice , any kind of roti or parathas .
pressure cook the dal with little salt and turmeric powder

Heat ghee and oil in kadai add cumin seeds and asafoetida
Add onion , garlic and green chilly and saute for some time till it becomes little soft
Add the boiled dal and cook for some time
When it will start boiling add milk and mix it
Add beaten curd and stir slowly in low flame
Add salt if necessary
Now add saffron with the milk and garam masala
Cook for few seconds
Burn the charcoal and put a bowl into the kadai
Put the burnt charcoal in the bowl add half a tea spoon of ghee on it and cover the kadai with a lid
Put off the gas and let it be covered till the smoke is absorbed into the dal
Take a tarka pan put little ghee fry the red chillies and pour it on the dal
It's ready to serve
