Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Boiled baby potatoes 1/4 kg
  2. Sesame oil 2 to 3 tablespoons
  3. Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  4. channa dal 1 teaspoon
  5. Salt 1 teaspoon
  6. Hing 1/2 teaspoon
  7. For masala powder :
  8. White urad dal 2 tablespoons
  9. Black whole pepper 20
  10. Dry red chillies 5
  11. Fennel seeds 1 tablespoon
  12. Other Ingredients :
  13. Curry leaves a sprig

Instructions

  1. Dry roast 2 tablespoons urad dal, 20 black whole pepper in a pan in low heat .
  2. Add 5 dried red chillies , 1 tablespoon fennel seeds . Dry roast until aroma releases.
  3. Cool and grind the mixture to a fine powder . If coarse red chillies here and there visible, let it
  4. be. Heat 2 tablespoons sesame oil in a wok.Add 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds,1 teaspoon channa dal.
  5. Add curry leaves . Fry dal until golden .
  6. Now add the ground masala powder .
  7. Sauté the masala well in the oil .
  8. Add salt.
  9. Add 1/2 teaspoon hing .
  10. Add 1/4 kg boiled small potatoes as shown.
  11. Slow roast the potatoes in low heat . Toss in between so that potatoes get masala coated .
  12. Chettinad Urulai ( potato ) Roast ready to serve with Sambar rice and curd rice .
