ABOUT Gondhoraaj Bhetki RECIPE

Bhetki, aka Barramundi is one of the favourite fishes relished by the Bengali community. Bhetki can be curried and cooked like any Bengali fish preparations, spiced and cooked wrapped into a paturi...the choices are quiet a few. Here’s a light, spicy and tangy recipe to relish this lovely fish. “Gondhoraj”, refers to the name of the sweet smelling lemon used in this recipe.Enjoy!

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 2 large lengthwise cut pieces of Bhetki or Barramundi, desclaled and cleaned
  2. 1 tablespoon crushed black pepper
  3. 1 tablespoon white sesame seeds
  4. 1/2 tablespoon white mustard seeds
  5. juice of 1 large gondhoraj/sweet smelling lemon
  6. Salt to taste
  7. 1/2 tablespoon mustard paste
  8. 1 tablespoon mustard oil
  9. paste of 2 green chillies
  10. Water as needed

Instructions

  1. Place all the dry ingredients ingredients in a large bowl/plate
  2. Mix all the ingredients well with the help of a spoon
  3. place the fish pieces into the bowl and make sure every side of the fishes are well coated with the marinade
  4. keep the fish covered marinated for 15 minutes
  5. Prepare a steamer by boiling 1/2 cup of water
  6. Place the fishes in the steamer and steam for 10-12 minutes or until tender/done
  7. Serve at room temperature with fresh steamed rice
