ABOUT Steamed Adai RECIPE

A traditional Tamil Nadu recipe prepared during a festival called "Nomb" .A custom in which a wife prays for her husband's long life.I believe it can serve as a healthy snack for all.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Rice Flour -1 cup
  2. Boiled black eyed peas -2 tbsp
  3. Mustard seeds -1 tsp
  4. Curry leaves -as desired
  5. Green Chillies -2-3
  6. Salt -to taste
  7. Water - as required
  8. Black split gram -1 tsp
  9. Oil -1 tbsp
  10. Coconut -1 tbsp scraped and 1 tbsp chopped into small pieces.

Instructions

  1. Dry roast rice flour for 6-8 minutes in low flame.
  2. Now heat oil in wok.
  3. Add mustard seeds,curry leaves ,asafoetida,black split gram ,coconut,chopped green chillies
  4. Add coconut slices and scaraped coconut.saute for sometimes.
  5. Add 2 cups water.Let it boil.
  6. Add salt to taste
  7. Add rice flour slowly.
  8. Keep on stirring so that no lumps is formed.
  9. When all the water is absorbed and mixture does not stick to wok switch off gas.
  10. After the mixture cools take a portion and flatten it.
  11. Make a hole in middle like in doughnuts.
  12. Steam in idli stand or any other vessel for 10-12 minutes.
  13. Steamed Adai is ready.
  14. You can eat as it is or serve it alongwith some spicy chutney.
