ABOUT Pithala . RECIPE

A popular dish of Maharastra, as served as a sidedish for chapathi or rice. This s very popular in south India also, especially Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu. Here they call it as Bombay Chutney. They serve as a sidedish for idli, dosa, poori & chapathi. Here they use tomatoes also. That s also tasty.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Onion 1 1/2 chopped
  2. Green chillies 3, chopped
  3. Ginger a small piece. Chopped
  4. Garlic 2 cloves crushed
  5. oil 1tbsp
  6. Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
  7. Jeera 1/4 tsp
  8. Channa dal 1/4 tsp
  9. Hinges a pinch
  10. Turmeric 1/4 tsp
  11. Lemon juice 1/2 tsp. Or according to taste.
  12. Basan 1tbsp
  13. water 2 cups.
  14. Salt.
  15. Coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. Mix basan with some water & make a paste.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Put mustard seeds , jeera & channa dal. When it splutters Add chillies,ginger & garlic. Fry well.
  3. Then add onion. Fry well.
  4. Add 2 cups of water. When it starts boiling add basan mixture, turmeric, hing & salt. Cover & Cook well till the gravy is thick.
  5. Add lemon juice & coriander leaves. . Stir well. Remove from fire.
  6. Serve hot with any dish, rice or rotis.
