ABOUT Gur ki Kheer (Jaggery Rice Pudding) RECIPE

This is a traditional sweet dish from Bengal. Prepared with the arrival of winter with Jaggery

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. Jaggery (Gur) 150 gms
  2. Basmati rice 100 gms (small grains are preferred)
  3. Milk full cream 1 litre
  4. Desiccated coconut 100 gms
  5. Raisins for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the rice for 10 minutes
  2. Boil milk in thick bottomed pan add the cardamoms to the milk while boiling.
  3. Once the milk starts boiling add the rice and mix well.
  4. Simmer the flame and continue to cook while stirring occasionally so that the rice does stick to the bottom of the pan.
  5. Check the rice is cooked and gets mushy.
  6. Add the Jaggery and the dessicated coconut mix well.
  7. Continue to cook some 10 more minutes.
  8. Transfer to a serving dish and let it cool at room temperature.
  9. Garnish with raisins (optional)
