ABOUT Sticky Rice Roti With Gur RECIPE

Sticky rice roti is the only traditional bread of Nagaland made with sticky rice flour. This roti is eaten not as a main meal like other parts of India since the main meal/food of Nagaland is rice. But it is eaten as a tea time snacks. I have already shared a different version of it here earlier.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Sticky rice flour - 1 cup
  2. Gur (Jaggery) - ½ cup
  3. Hot water - 50 ml
  4. Oil - 1-1½ cup

Instructions

  1. Grate the Gur finely.
  2. In a bowl add the hot water and the grated gur. Let the Gur dissolve completely. Strain it if required.
  3. In a mixing bowl take the sticky rice flour.
  4. Now pour the gur water and knead to form a dough. Please note that it doesn't require much water to make the dough so be careful. The dough should not be soft but a little stiff and tight.
  5. Divide the dough into small balls.
  6. Slightly wet your hands with few drops of water or grease your hand with oil and flatten the balls into small circles using your palms and fingers.
  7. Heat oil in a deep frying pan.
  8. When the oil is hot, reduce the heat and add the roti one at a time and fry on medium heat.
  9. It will puffed up gently turn them over and fry till golden brown on both sides.
  10. Serve with tea or coffee.
