Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2-3 raw bananas
  2. 2 tbsp toor dal
  3. 4 tbsp chana(black chana/kabuli chana)
  4. 3/4 tsp turmeric
  5. salt as per taste
  6. small lemon sized tamarind
  7. 1 tsp grated jaggery
  8. Grinding
  9. 3/4 cup coconut
  10. 4 dry red chillies
  11. 2tsp coriander seeds
  12. cumin seeds 3/4 tsp
  13. coconut oil 2tbsp
  14. fenugreek seeds 1/2 tsp
  15. 1/2 tsp chana dal
  16. 1/2 tsp urad dal
  17. 1 sprig curry leaves
  18. Seasoning
  19. 1 tsp oil
  20. 1tsp mustard seeds
  21. 1 sprig curry leaves
  22. 1/2 tsp urad dal

Instructions

  1. Soak tamarind in warm water. Pressure cook dal and chana until tender. Keep it aside
  2. Peel and cut banana in cubes. Keep it soaked in water to avoid discoloration
  3. In a pan, heat oil and saute all ingredients mentioned under grinding section until spices are roasted well and coconut is brown. Allow it cool. Add little water and grind it to paste
  4. In a separate vessel, add water sufficient enough to cook banana, add banana (discard water it was kept in) and turmeric mix well. Now extract tamarind pulp and add to banana. Cook until banana is tender. Add ground paste, dal , chana, jaggery and salt. Mix well
  5. Cover and cook for another 7-8 minutes. Meanwhile heat oil , add mustard seeds, allow it to splutter, add urad dal, allow it to brown. Now add curry leaves. Switch off. Add the seasoning to the curry. Mix well. Serve hot with rice or roti
