ABOUT Daal Paalak.. RECIPE

An amazingly done comfort food or better still, soulful meal that is unparalleled both in terms of taste and looks. Simple yet elegant side dish to any meal. It is by all means a true comforting food with desi ghee drizzled on top and some pickle of choice with steaming hot bowl of rice or rotis/phulkas. It goes well with just anything and everything. Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Red lentils or masoor dal 1 1/2 cups
  2. Spinach chopped 2 cups
  3. Salt 1 tsp
  4. Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  5. Black Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  6. Dry red chillies 4
  7. Oil 3 tbsp
  8. Turmeric 1/2 tsp
  9. Green Chilli paste 1 tbsp
  10. Asafoetida 1/8th tsp
  11. Onion sliced thinly 1

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak dal in about 2 cups of water.
  2. In a deep frying pan, heat oil.
  3. Add asafoetida, mustard seeds and dry chillies.
  4. Now add sliced onions and ginger garlic paste.
  5. Saute it all for a minute or two.
  6. Next add the spices along with the green chilli paste. You can even add chopped green chillies instead.
  7. Now add the soaked red lentils and the chopped spinach both along with the water in which it was soaked.
  8. Add salt and simmer it on a low heat until done.
  9. The consistency should be medium thick. Do not add more of water. It spoils the taste and texture.
  10. Serve this daal paalak with rotis.
