ABOUT pazham kanji. RECIPE

This is actually the real traditional breakfast of the poor & middle class people of kerala in old times. This nutritious & healthy rice dish is made from the left over rice. almost all people in olden days used to take it in their own way. . whether it s only with curd & green chillies or with buttermilk & chutney or anyway they prefer. we can make this same with fresh rice also.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. leftover rice 1cup ( keep overnight adding enough water to cover it.)
  2. Curd 1 cup
  3. Salt to taste
  4. For pulissery
  5. Curd 1cup
  6. To grind
  7. Coconut 1/2 cup
  8. Green chillies 2
  9. Garlic 2 cloves
  10. Jeera 2 pinch
  11. hing a pi nch
  12. Salt
  13. Oil 1 tbsp
  14. Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  15. Red Chillies 2
  16. chilli powder 1/4 tsp ( just to give colour)
  17. ginger chopped a small piece.
  18. curry leaves
  19. For Chutney
  20. Coconut 1/2 cup
  21. Small onion 3
  22. Green chillies 2
  23. tamarind a small piece.
  24. Salt

Instructions

  1. Drain water from rice.
  2. To make pulissery . grind all ingredients given to grind. In a pan add some oil & put the ground masala along with some water. fry for a few min. add turmeric powder & salt. let it boil for a few sec just to remove the raw taste.
  3. then add beaten curd stir well . simmer till it s very hot. almost the boiling point.
  4. remove from fire.
  5. heat a small kadai with 1 tbsp of oil. put mustard seeds red chillies, chopped ginger & curry leaves. fry well. add to the curry.
  6. pulissery. add water if the curry is very thick. if it s a bit sour add some sugar.
  7. for chutney grind all ingredients given for chutney without adding water. try to make it a bit fry.
  8. take a serving individual bowl , add 1/2 cup rice , drainning water.
  9. then put 1 or 2 big laddle of pulissery gravy on top. then 1 tbsp of chutney & 1/2 cup of thick fresh curd.
  10. add salt. mix well with our own hands.
  11. serve with green chillies , papad & some pickle.
  12. It s tasty even without any accompaniments.
