ABOUT Kheema Matar Semiya RECIPE

This is a special breakfast dish served at Muslim marriages in the Southern Districts of Tamil Nadu. It is a simple yet flavourful dish.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Minced meat or kheema 200 gms
  2. Green peas 1 cup
  3. Roasted vermicelli 2 cups
  4. Coconut milk 2 cups
  5. Water 1 cup
  6. Onion 1 finely chopped
  7. Tomato 1 finely chopped
  8. Green chillies 2
  9. Ginger garlic paste 2 teaspoons
  10. Red chilly powder 1 tsp
  11. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  12. Biryani masala 1 tsp
  13. Salt accordingly
  14. Curry leaves few
  15. Mint leaves a fistful
  16. Oil 30 ml
  17. Ghee 30 ml

Instructions

  1. Pressure cook the kheema for 10 whistles with 1/2tsp salt,chilly powder, turmeric powder and 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste and 200ml water.
  2. In a kadai saute onion with oil till it turns pink
  3. Then add tomatoes,green chillies, mint leaves, Ginger garlic paste and saute well
  4. Then add the remaining chilly powder, turmeric,salt , biriyani masala and stir well
  5. Transfer this to the cooked kheema in the pressure cooker
  6. Add the green peas
  7. Add the coconut milk and water and adjust the spice and salt level
  8. Once it starts boiling add the roasted vermicelli
  9. Mix well and keep the flame in low
  10. Cover with the cooker lid inverted
  11. After 5 minutes all the moisture will be absorbed and fluffy kheema matar semiyaa is ready
  12. Pour the ghee and give it a gentle stir
  13. Serve hot with boiled egg
