It is made with loosely available sewaiyan here in Hyderabad city called as Khaare Sewaiyan. They are a bit more thinner than the usual vermicelli available in the market.

Can I add some veggies to it?
Add the sewaiyan to a bowl with 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
Add boiling water to it and see to it that they are immersed fully.
Cover with a lid and set aside for 5 minutes.
Do not leave it for more than that because they might become mushy.
In a pan, heat oil and add the asafoetida first with ginger and garlic.
Next, add curry leaves and the mustard seeds.
After they splutter, add the dals, green peas and the peanuts
Shallow fry them until a slight colour change is seen.
Now saute the onions until translucent.
Now add the cooked sewaiyan and mix everything well.
Cover and let it cook for 2 more minutes.
Tasty and healthy sewaiyan upma is ready to be served hot for breakfast. Garnish with spring onion greens for a lovely look.
