ABOUT Moong Jor Garam... RECIPE

An easy peasy yummy wholesome idea and an amazing twist to the original chana jor garam. I have used sprouted green gram in this innovative version with some selected spices and that's it. It is not only healthy but also filling too. Very easy to make also. A perfect accompamiment at tea-time or a yummy brunch idea too. This can be packed into kids school box also. This can be relished as a complete meal too. Hence it is quite a multipurpose one at that.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Sprouted Green gram 2 cups
  2. Onions chopped finely 1
  3. Chana masala 2 tbsp
  4. Peanuts (optional) roasted 2 tbsp
  5. Chaat Masala 1 tbsp
  6. Coriander finely chopped a handful
  7. Green chillies chopped 3 or red chilli flakes 1 tbsp
  8. oil 2 tbsp
  9. Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  10. Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  11. Dry red chillies 3
  12. Curry leaves few

Instructions

  1. First of all soak the whole green gram for about 8 hours and then wrap them up in a wet cotton cloth and keep it on the kitchen counter for a day or two for the gram to sprout.
  2. It usually takes 2 to 3 days.
  3. Keep the cloth wet and if it drys up, sprinkle some more water on it.
  4. In a pan, heat oil and add some curry leaves and mustard seeds. After the seeds crackle, add the sprouts and stir fry them.
  5. Add rest of the ingredients too except the chaat masala, onion and the coriander leaves.
  6. Cover and cook for about 10 to 15 minutes.
  7. It will be done very soon. Keep stirring in between. Do not over cook. They should be crunchy but not raw.
  8. After done, serve it in paper cones just like the street vendor does for chana jor garam.
  9. Add chopped onion and garnish with loads of freshly chopped coriander and sprinkle chaat masala for that perfect taste.
  10. Squeeze some lemon juice for that extra punch.
