ABOUT Thotakura Chicken RECIPE

Another delicacy of "Pattus" their way of cooking depicts the rustic style simple and healthy yet very tasty. Most of the nonveg dishes always included the seasonal veggies in it. Thotakura chicken one such dish.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Thotakura leaves( Amaranth leaves) cleaned and finely chopped including the tender stems - 2 cups
  2. 500g Country chicken 75% cooked with salt and turmeric
  3. Dry Red chilies -3
  4. Grated Fresh coconut - 1/2 cup
  5. Coriander seeds - 1/4 tsp
  6. Ginger - 1/4 inch chopped
  7. Garlic - one pod peeled
  8. Onion - 1 - finely chopped
  9. Fennel seeds - 1/4 tsp
  10. Oil - 2 tsp
  11. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  12. Salt as per taste
  13. Water - 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Grind 1/4 cup coconut, fennel seeds, red chilies, coriander seeds, garlic and ginger to fine paste
  2. Heat oil in a kadai, add chopped onion and fry till they become translucent
  3. Add the ground coconut paste and fry well till oil starts leaving sides
  4. Now add the 3/4th cooked chicken to it and mix well
  5. Add turmeric powder and salt and mix well. Add water and cook till the chicken is tender
  6. Now add the amaranth/thotakura leaves to the chicken and mix well, cook for some more time till the leaves are cooked and water has evaporated,
  7. Now add 2 tbsp scrapped coconut to the chicken and mix well , switch offn off the flame and transfer the thotakura chicken to a serving dish
  8. Garnish with 2 tbsp scrapped coconut and serve hot with roti, or rice.
