ABOUT Tendli Jeera Curry (Dondakaya Jeelakarra Moggu) RECIPE

An authentic spicy jeera curry from the state of Andhra pradesh. As winter is here nothing could provide so much of warmth to the body as the spices in this curry does. Lots of cumin blend with garlic and seasame seeds makes it a perfect warm winter curry.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Tendli /ivy gourd - 400 gms
  2. 2-3 tbsp Oil
  3. For Masala: Cumin seeds - 2 tbsp
  4. Sesame seeds - 1/4 cup
  5. Garlic - 2 pods
  6. Red chilies-10
  7. Water sufficient to make paste
  8. For the tempering :
  9. Mustard seeds-1 tsp
  10. Garlic pod - 1
  11. Oil 1 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Wash and cut tendli into long strips
  2. Grind the masala using adequate water to make paste
  3. Fry the tendli in 2 to 3 tbsp of oil till almost done.Drain and keep aside.
  4. For the tempering: Splutter mustard seeds in hot oil. Add the peeled garlic cloves and saute till brown
  5. Add the ground masala paste and saute further for 7 to 8 minutes on medium flame
  6. Now add the fried tendli and mix well
  7. Add water and salt to season.Cover and Simmer for 10 minutes or till done
  8. Serve hot with rice
