Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Banana stem chopped into small cubes 1 cup
  2. Onion 1
  3. Green chillies 3
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Rice batter
  6. Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon
  7. Chili powder 1 teaspoon
  8. Mustard seed 1tablespoon
  9. Curry leaves 2 sprigs
  10. For rice batter
  11. Soaked rice 1 cup
  12. Small piece ginger
  13. Small garlic
  14. Cumin 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Boil water with little turmeric powder and add chopped banana stem. Cook till soft.
  2. Grind the rice batter ingredients with very little water. Form a thick paste. This should not be too coarse nor too fine. Don't make watery.
  3. Squeeze the boiled stems and remove excess water. In a bowl take these stems add salt and chili powder. Add garam masala.
  4. Add finely chopped onion and green chili.
  5. Add rice batter and mix so that the batter coats the pieces well. Adjust amount of rice batter accordingly.
  6. Heat 3 tbsp oil. Crackle the mustard seed. Add curry leaves. Now add the batter coated stems by hand. Try to put them one by one but do it fast. So that they don't get gathered at one place.
  7. Lower the flame and wait till one side becomes brown and crisp. Flip to other side and wait till it becomes crisp and brown. Steer in between so that the pieces separate and all pieces are fried evenly.
  8. Don't fry much at a time they won't be crisp. Rather u can fry in batches..
  9. Serve with plain rice dal and curry.
