ABOUT Raga chana (sauteed yellow peas) RECIPE

A healthy curry to be served with some rotis on the side.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Yellow peas 1 cup
  2. Salt
  3. Turmeric 1/2 tsp
  4. One onion
  5. 2 green chili
  6. Curry leaves few
  7. Mustard seed 1 tbsp
  8. 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  9. Oil 1 tables.

Instructions

  1. Soak the peas for a good 3 hrs.
  2. Wash and pressure cook on high flame for 1 or 2 whistles with haldi [turmeric powder] and salt.
  3. Release the pressure and drain the water. Basic point is do not over cook. chana should be cooked but should not be soft. It shouldn't leave it's skin.
  4. Drain well.
  5. Now heat a kadhai with 2 table sp oil.
  6. Add mustard and let crackle.
  7. Add chopped green chili,onion and curry leaves. Saute till onions are just translucent. Do not brown them.
  8. Add ginger garlic paste. Adding ginger garlic paste is purely optional as it tastes eqally good.
  9. If you wish , you can also add finely chopped tomatoes here.
  10. Saute till raw smell goes. Now add peas and mix well.
  11. You can garnish with some scraped coconut as well.
  12. Enjoy on a rainy evening.
