ABOUT Rice Puttu RECIPE

Puttu is a traditional breakfast of Kerala which is made of rice flour.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Rice Flour 2 cups
  2. Coconut grated 1 cup
  3. Water less than 1 cup
  4. salt as needed

Instructions

  1. Take rice flour in a bowl.
  2. Add salt and mix well.
  3. Sprinkle water little by little and mix the flour. It should be like bread crumb consistency. Keep aside for 10 minutes.
  4. Take a puttu maker. Fill the vessel with 2 to 3 cups of water and allow it to boil.
  5. If you dont have a puttu vessel you can make it in a idli cooker too.
  6. Take the round disc of the puttu vessel/idli plates and sprinkle the grated coconut.
  7. Now using a tablespoon add the puttu flour over the grated coconut until it reaches half of the round disc.
  8. Now again add a layer of grated coconut approximately 1 tablespoon.
  9. Add a final layer of puttu flour and some grated coconut over it.
  10. Close the lid and keep the round disc on the puttu vessel.
  11. Cook on high flame for 5 minutes and low flame for another 5 minutes.
  12. Remove from the disc using a wooden ladle gently pushing it outside on to a plate.
  13. Can be served with moong dal curry and papad, banana, and chole curry.
