ABOUT Milky Mushrooms in Bread Batons ( shallow fried) RECIPE

Mushrooms in white sauce and cheese sandwiched between bread slices, coated with flour and bread crumbs and shallow fried. Children love bread and this is a good way to make them love mushroom which is full of nutrients.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. White bread slices crumbs removed. 4
  2. Mushrooms. 3- 4
  3. Onions. medium. 1
  4. Italian herbs. 2 teaspoon
  5. Butter. 2 tablespoons
  6. Grated cheddar cheese. 2 tablespoons
  7. Grated mozzarella cheese. 2 tablespoons
  8. Cheese spread. 2 tablespoons
  9. Plain flour. 1/2 cup
  10. Milk. 1 cup
  11. Corn flour. 1 tablespoon
  12. Chilly flakes. 1 teaspoon
  13. Olive oil. 5 - 6 teaspoons
  14. Salt to taste
  15. Tomato ketchup (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the crusts from the bread slices.
  2. Just pulse in the mixer jar till crumbly.
  3. Heat pan, add oil, add the bread crumbs, salt and 1teaspoon of herbs and chilly flakes
  4. Remove and cool.
  5. Chop mushrooms and onions into small pieces
  6. Heat pan, add one tablespoon of butter, add onions, sauté till translucent.
  7. Add chopped mushrooms, salt and Italian herbs.
  8. Sauté till soft.
  9. Add 1 tablespoon of flour, stir well, add milk, stir continuously till thick and spreadable consistency.
  10. Add grated cheese and stir till melted.
  11. Adjust salt and seasoning. Your milky-mushroom sauce is ready.
  12. Apply cheese spread on all the bread slices.
  13. Spread the milky mushroom sauce on one slice, cover with another buttered slice.
  14. Cut in the middle to make 2 baton shaped pieces.
  15. Heat pan, add butter and olive oil.
  16. Make a paste with the remaining flour using a little water and salt.
  17. coat the bread Batons in the flour mix and coat with bread crumbs
  18. Place 2 or more Batons in the pan when the oil is sizzling.
  19. Grill till golden on both sides.
  20. Serve with grated cheese on top and tomato ketchup( optional)
  21. I served with sliced Kiwi , a greens salad and a glass of Oranje juice to make a complete platter.
