Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Onions (cut into slices) 4-5
  2. Tamarind pulp 4-5 tbsp
  3. Roasted tuar Dal powder
  4. Green chili (long cut pieces with slits) as per taste
  5. Curry leaves 1 stem
  6. salt as per taste
  7. Chilli powder 1-2 tsp
  8. Jaggery (grated) 1-2 tsp
  9. Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  10. Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
  11. Red chillies 3-4
  12. Asofeotida 1/2 tsp
  13. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  14. Oil to saute onions and seasonings

Instructions

  1. Firstly, heat a pan add 1-2 spoons of oil and saute the sliced onion till it leaves it's raw smell.
  2. In a deep bowl, add the tamarind pulp, water according to consistency, salt, turmeric powder, grated jaggery, chilli powder and the sauteed onions and give it a nice boil.
  3. Take the roasted tuar Dal powder in a small bowl, add some water to it and make a thin batter.
  4. Pour this batter into the boiling onion and tamarind liquid.
  5. This roasted that Dal powder gives a body to the dish.
  6. For seasoning or tadka, add some oil in a small pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli broken into two, asofeotida and Curry leaves.
  7. Let it splutter and then add this to the boiling ullipaya pulusu.
  8. Serve it hot with white rice.
