Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For the Dal:
  2. Moong Dal - 1 cup
  3. Onion - 1 (small)
  4. Tomato - 2
  5. Garlic cloves - 8
  6. Coriander leaves - few
  7. Turmeric powder - 1/4th tsp
  8. Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  9. For the Tadka:
  10. Mustard seeds - 1/4th tsp
  11. Cumin seeds - 1/4th tsp
  12. Red dry chilli - 2
  13. Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
  14. Onion - 1 (cut in fine slices)
  15. Coriander leaves - for garnishing
  16. Lemon juice - 1/4th lemon

Instructions

  1. Soak the dal for 10 to 15 minutes. Take a cooker add the dal, to this add the finely cut tomatoes, garlic, onion and coriander leaves turmeric powder and chilli powder along with 2 to 3 cups water. Let it cook for 3 whistles.
  2. Once the cooker cools down, give the dal a single stir with ladle. Add salt and stir well.
  3. In a cooking pan, pour in some oil, once it's heated add in the mustard seeds. Let this crackle. To this add in cumin seeds, red chillies, curry leaves and fine cut onion slices.
  4. To get a nice even golden shade in the tadka, fry it on a medium to low flame.
  5. Meanwhile heat the dal to a required consistency and put it in a serving dish. Once the tadka is ready, pour it on the dal.
  6. Garnish with coriander leaves and few drops of lemon (optional).
