ABOUT Chickpea Falafel RECIPE

Falafel is a deep fried ball or patty made from grounded chickpea, sova beans or mixture of both. Falafel is a middle Eastern cuisine. They are served as a snacks or part of a meal. Apart from this it is also used as a stuffing inside a pita bread. To make Falafel, Chickpea are soaked overnight or for 3-4 hours and are grounded with spices and herbs along with little flour to coarse texture. Explore the recipe.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Chickpea - 2 cups
  2. Onion - 1 large chopped
  3. Green chilli - 4 chopped
  4. Garlic - 6-7 cloves
  5. Cumin seeds - ½ tsp
  6. Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  7. Pepper powder - ½ tsp
  8. Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  9. Rice Flour or all purpose flour - 1 tbsp
  10. A handful chopped coriander leaves
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Oil - 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Soak the chickpea overnight or atleast for 3-4 hours.
  2. Take the soaked chickpea in a blender or grinder. Add all the ingredients mentioned above except oil. Blend it to a coarse mixture. Do not blend it finely. The mixture should be coarse.
  3. Make small portion of the mixture and roll into balls or you can gently flatten it after making balls.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan. When the oil is hot simmer the flame and drop the balls or patty and fry in simmer for 2-3  mins and then increase to medium heat and fry till golden and crisp from outside.
  5. Drain in absorbent paper and serve it with sauce or dipping of your choice or as a stuffing in pita.
