Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 5-6 rohu pieces
  2. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  3. 1 tsp red chili powder
  4. Salt to taste
  5. 1 cup curd
  6. 1 tsp mustard seeds
  7. 2 green chilies
  8. 7 to 8 garlic pods
  9. Coriander leaves for garnish
  10. Juice of 1 lemon
  11. 2 tbsp mustard oil

Instructions

  1. Lets start with marinating the fish to cut down its smell.
  2. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and salt and a generous amount of lemon juice.
  3. Mix well and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  4. Heat 1 tbsp mustard oil on a flat non stick pan. Heat on high till oil reaches smoking point.
  5. Lower the flame and allow the oil to settle down.
  6. Add the fish pieces one by one leaving enough space between them so you can easily turn them upside down.
  7. Overcrowding fish in pan can make it difficult for you to turn them and cook them evenly without breaking the fish pieces.
  8. Cook fish pieces till they are almost done but not fully cooked.
  9. Now we make the gravy.
  10. Soak garlic, mustard seeds, green chili in luke warm water for 10 to 15 minutes. Grind to a fine paste by adding water little at a time.
  11. Add curd to the gravy and give a whisk on the pulse mode.
  12. Add salt to taste. Add very little to start with. You can add 1 tbsp sugar or just skip it.
  13. Now heat another tsp of oil in the work. Heat on high and then lower it.
  14. Add the curd mixture, fish pieces, simmer, cover the cooking pan.
  15. Cook for about 8 to 10 minutes. Our Fish in curd gravy is ready.
  16. Nothing tastes better than a bowl of steam rice.
