ABOUT Moong daal stuffed Rice balls. RECIPE

Onde Onde is a traditional Indonesian recepie I had eaten in an Indonesian restaurant during my visit to Singapore. Rice balls made of Glutinous Rice , Stuffed with peeled Moong beans and deep fried with a layer of Sesame seeds.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Glutinous Rice flour 250 grms
  2. Potato 1
  3. Castor sugar. 3 tbsp ( 50 grams )
  4. Sesame seeds 200 grms
  5. Salt 1/2 tsp
  6. Zeera roasted 1/2 tsp
  7. Water 200 ml.
  8. Dried black grapes 1 tsp
  9. Oil for Deep frying
  10. For stuffing
  11. Moong daal soaked 150 grms
  12. Sugar 2 tbsp ( 50 grams )
  13. Coconut milk 50 ml.
  14. Gram flour 1 tsp ( heaped )
  15. Ghee 2 tsp
  16. Milk 2 tbsp
  17. Cardemom powder 1/4 tsp
  18. Roasted coarse ground almonds 2 tsp

Instructions

  1. Steam soaked moong daal. Let it cool.
  2. Cook in a heavy bottomed pan by adding milk. Mix ghee in gram flour and add. Add Cardemom powder . Add dried black grapes. Add roasted almonds too.
  3. Let the mixture cool. Make balls by greasing your palm.
  4. Now take flour. Add boiled and mashed potato to it. Add sugar, salt and knead flour so as to wear can Spread it in a palm and fill. So it should not be very soft.
  5. stuff the balls with moong daal stuffings. Taking care to close it properly.
  6. Keep the sesame seeds ready in a plate. Now take water in a bowl. Dip ball in it and roll the stuffed ball in sesame seeds, press little with soft hand and give it a shape again. keep in a plate.
  7. Heat oil in a nonstick pan. Fry the balls on a low flame turning frequently.
  8. Your Rice balls ( onde onde) are ready to eat. It tastes heavenly.
