This quick snack recipe is very yummy and enjoyed by kids as well as adults. Can be served both hot and cold.. hence makes an awesome snack box recipe
Lovely vadas recipe!
Wash and soak channa dal for 4 hrs.
Clean and wash spinach and coriander leaves, ginger and green chilies.
Finely chop the onion.
In a food processor add the soaked dal, cumin seed, ginger and green chilies and blitz till you get a very coarsely ground dal. You may add about 1/4 cup of water... a little at a time.
Now add in the spinach and coriander leaves and blitz again till the leaves are finely minced too. Remove to a bowl.
To the ground dal, add in the finely chopped onions, salt, chili pd, garam masala pd, asafoetida and chick pea flour. Mix well.
Check the mix for seasoning and adjust. This mix should be fairly thick and you will be able to shape the batter into small patties. (If you have added excess water while grinding, you may have to add another tbsp of chickpea flour.)
Heat oil in a Kadai and drop the shaped patties into the hot oil, cooking them on medium heat till the vadas are nicely golden brown in color.
Drain on an absorbent paper and sprinkle with some chaat masala.
Serve with a dipping sauce of your choice (green chutney / sweet tamarind chutney / ketchup / chili sauce)
