With so many benefits of awla, there is one more sweet reason to have it in every season. This mithai is made without adding a single drop of ghee.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Half kg awla
  2. Half a kg sugar or more
  3. Roasted cumin seeds 2 tsp
  4. Pepper powder 1 tsp
  5. 25 gms of mixed dryfruits
  6. Dessicated coconut to sprinkle
  7. Magaj/watermelon seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash amla. Wipe them with kitchen towel
  2. Grate them.
  3. Mix sugar in it and keep aside for 6 to 7 hours.
  4. After resting period awla will release its juice and get mixed with sugar and form a syrup.
  5. Transfer this In heavy bottom pan
  6. keep stirring it on low flame so that it should not stick to the bottom of the pan
  7. Slowly the color of sugar will start to change. It will take around 45-50 minutes.
  8. Switch off the flame when the sugar syrup has thickened and very little is left
  9. Don't dry the sugar syrup completely as upon cooling it will crystallize
  10. Now add roughly chopped dry fruits, black pepper powder and roasted whole cumin.
  11. Mix well and let the mixture cool.
  12. Now grease a steel plate with 2 drops of ghee
  13. Pour this lukewarm awla mixture on the greased plate.
  14. Spread it with greased backside of steel bowl.
  15. Spread magaj/watermelon seeds and some dessicated coconut over it
  16. Let it rest for few more minutes
  17. Cut the mithai into desired shape
  18. Store it in an airtight container.
