ABOUT Mangalore Buns RECIPE

A Mangalorean favourite tea time snack.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Oil for frying
  2. Salt - a Pinch
  3. Butter - 1 tbsp
  4. Maida - 1/2 cup
  5. Wheat Flour - 1/2 Cup
  6. Cardamom powder - 1 tsp
  7. Baking Soda - 1/2 tsp
  8. Banana - 1 medium
  9. Sugar - 1 cup
  10. Curd - 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Grind together the banana, curd and sugar. Do not grind too much, just a single pulse is enough.
  2. Transfer the contents to a bowl. Add in the salt, butter, baking powder and cardamom powder. Mix it well together.
  3. Add in the wheat flour and maida in equal quantities. (ex. If you take 1/2 cup maida, then take 1/2 cup wheat flour.) Knead into a soft dough. Allow it to ferment overnight or 7 hours.
  4. Make equal sized balls. Roll it into thick pooris. Then deep fry them in oil. (Please make sure that the flame is high before frying, then lower the flame while frying.)
  5. Serve it hot with coffee.
