ABOUT Vegetable Masala Vada RECIPE

Masala vadais are prepared during festivals in most South Indian homes. It is usually served along with tea or with a chutney as a snack. It can also be served as part of a festive meal.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup chana dal
  2. Pinch of Cinnamon pwd
  3. 1/2 tsp roasted cumin pwd
  4. 1/2 tsp saunf / fennel pwd
  5. 1 medium onion chopped
  6. Handful of Coriander, mint & curry leaves
  7. 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  8. 1 to 2 green chilies chopped
  9. 1-2 tbsp finally chopped cabbage
  10. 1-2 tbsp chopped capsicum
  11. 2 tbsp grated carrot
  12. Turmeric a large pinch (optional)
  13. Oil for Deep frying

Instructions

  1. Soak washed chana dal in good amount of water for 1.5 hours.Drain completely to a colander.
  2. Pulse soaked dal, salt coarsely, transfer to a bowl. Add mint, curry leaves, onion, masala powder, green chilies, chopped vegetables and ginger garlic paste. Mix all well.
  3. The mixture must have a good binding to shape them to vadas.Heat oil in a deep pan. Make small balls and flatten them. Deep fry until golden on both sides.
  4. Transfer to a kitchen tissue.Serve hot with chutney or ketchup.
