ABOUT BHAKARWADI ( SNACK ) RECIPE

Bhakarwadi is a traditional sweet and spicy snack from Maharashtra. It is made from gram flour dough made into spirals stuffed with a mixture of coconut, poppy seeds and sesame seeds. It is then fried until it gets crispy.It can be stored for weeks and enjoyed as an evening snack.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. For dough
  2. 1 cup all purpose flour
  3. 1 cup Gram Flour
  4. 1 pinch Asafoetida
  5. 3 tbsp oil
  6. Salt
  7. Make a tight and a little hard dough mixing the above ingredients
  8. For filling :-
  9. 4 tbsp Poppy seeds
  10. 3 tbsp Sesame seeds
  11. 1 tsp of asafoetida
  12. 3 tbsp of powdered sugar
  13. 1/4 cup grated dry coconut
  14. 2 tbsp red chilly powder
  15. 2 tbsp coriander powder
  16. 1 tbsp amchur ( dry mango powder )
  17. Salt
  18. 2 tbsp finely chopped fresh coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. As I mentioned above make a dough mixing all the ingredients and keep aside for half an hour
  2. Now the filling part
  3. Take grated coconut dry roast it and take it aside
  4. Take poppy seeds and sesame seeds dry roast it and keep aside
  5. Now take all the ingredients of filling along with coconut, poppy seeds and sesame seeds and mix it in the mixer grinder
  6. Don’t grind the coriander leaves with the ingredients.
  7. Take out in a bowl and then add freshly chopped coriander
  8. Take a portion of dough like we take for a paratha
  9. Roll it with a rolling pin on a roller
  10. Spread some oil on it
  11. Sprinkle some all purpose flour on it
  12. Now take 2 or 2 1/2 tbsp of filling and spread evenly on all the sides of the rolled chapati
  13. Now roll the chapati as franky, but tightly and firmly
  14. At the end apply some water on the end side and stick it to the rolled chapati
  15. Now cut it in your desired size
  16. Take oil and fry these bhakarwadi on low flame till crisp and firm

I use to eat a lot of these when i was in pune, best tea time snack ever!
