Fish cakes or pattice were always made in my house when fish was in abundance. They were especially made during dinner parties, and best of all, they are so easy to make and can be made a day ahead and kept frozen

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 5 slices of King/sear fish (surmai)
  2. 4 tbsp Dehydrated potato flakes
  3. 3 tbsp Breadcrumbs
  4. 1 beaten Egg
  5. 1-1/2 tsp Garlic paste
  6. 1 tbsp Lime juice
  7. 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  8. 1 tsp Red chili powder
  9. 1 tsp Green chili paste
  10. 1/2 Onion chopped
  11. Handful of chopped coriander leaves
  12. Salt and pepper to taste
  13. Oil for shallow frying
  14. Breadcrumbs as per need

Instructions

  1. Boil the fish with little water and turmeric powder. Discard any water remaining.
  2. Cool and separate bones from flesh.
  3. Mix the rest of the ingredients with the shredded fish till it binds well.
  4. Make equal sized balls. Press them to resemble flat discs. Roll them in breadcrumbs.
  5. Heat oil in a large flat nonstick pan/skillet. Shallow fry the fish cakes both sides till golden in color.
