Kerala style recipe of salted steamed rice balls
If using parboiled red rice, soak it overnight.
Drain the rice and let it dry for 30min by spreading over a kitchen towel or paper
Grind the rice without water to make a coarse powder.
If using rice flour, you can skip the above steps
Grind the coconut and jeera together to form a paste
Add salt and the coconut-jeera paste to the ground rice/flour and bind it to form the dough adding the required amount of water
Make balls of the dough and steam them in a steamer or idli cooker for 10 minutes
Check if cooked with a toothpick.
Serve it with a spicy chutney.
